Homemade Plantain Chips

45 min
Ingredients:
3 green plantains (unripe and firm to the touch)
1/2 teaspoon salt
60ml water
Oil for frying
Method:
1. Cut off both tips of each plantain. Cut a line across the ridges of the plantain, then pull the skin back from this cut section and remove the whole skin.
2. Cut the plantains into round chip shapes using the slicing side of a grater or simply cut thinly with a knife.
3. Combine 60 ml of water and the salt in a small bowl, and then put to the side for now.
4. Place the oil in a deep pan and heat on high for 10 minutes. Turn down the heat to medium, then add two tablespoons of the salt water.
5. Add the plantains to the oil. Let the plantains fry for 5 minutes, occasionally stirring them slowly.
6. Once they are crispy and done, remove the chips and allow to cool on a paper towel, which will also absorb excess oil.
7. When the chips have cooled down sufficiently, they’re ready to be served. Enjoy!
